Television programming will be provided by Direct TV - no longer Charter Communications

by Wayne Wood - released on November 12, 2009

Beginning on or about December 15th, the television programming at Ridgewood Village will be provided by Direct TV at no additional cost to you.  Therefore, Charter Communications services will no longer be available at Ridgewood.  Please be assured that it is our goal to provide the residents of Ridgewood with quality television programming and internet access.  If you currently have premium cable programming, internet or phone service through Charter, you will need to contact them by calling 1-800-314-7195 (Business Division) to discontinue your service as of December 20, 2009 and follow their procedures for returning any modems or other equipment in order to precipitate a final bill.  Be advised that if you do not return any equipment you have been leasing from them, they will continue to bill you regardless of the fact that you are not receiving their services.

We apologize for any inconvenience this changeover will cause our residents.  However, because of cost and customer service issues, we are making the change in the best interests of our residents.  The changeover will occur between semesters, at a time that most residents will be away for Christmas.  Hopefully this will minimize any inconvenience.

We are working towards a smooth transition and are excited about these changes.  Ridgewood will be able to offer our residents an exceptional lineup of quality television programming with great reception and high speed internet at an affordable cost.  The schedule of programming that will be provided in your rent is attached.  Ridgewood is contracting with Bulk TV & Internet to provide these services.  Any resident who wants additional premium channels, movies on demand, pay-per-view, etc., will be able to contract directly through Bulk TV & Internet for these services, at their own expense.  Bulk TV & Internet is a company that handles commercial accounts for Direct TV, as well as other television programming and internet companies.

We have determined through our survey that a large percentage of residents have their internet through Charter.  We will be able to offer you internet at a fraction of the cost you are now paying.  Though you will no longer be able to access Charter Communications internet, you will be able to purchase internet access, at a rate of $20.00 per month, through Ridgewood.  The $20.00 per month internet fee will be optional through the remainder of your current lease period, which ends on July 31, 2010, and you will need a modem.  You can purchase a preprogrammed modem from the Ridgewood office, at a cost of $100.00.  However, beginning August 1, 2010, the rent on every lot will increase to include this new service and all tenants who don’t already have a modem will need one in order to access this service.  If you choose not to receive internet access through Ridgewood, you will still be able to get it through other providers like AT&T/Bellsouth.

The Ridgewood office will begin immediately taking reservations for modems.  We will base our initial order for these preprogrammed modems based on these reservations.  After the reserved modems have been distributed, additional modems will be ordered and then distributed on a first come first serve basis.  Instructions for activation and warranty will be available on Ridgewood’s website and in the office.  The Modem Reservation Form is enclosed and additional forms are available in the office.

Though there are only a small percentage of our residents who have landlines, we realize that some have their telephone service through Charter.  It is important that these residents understand that they need to make other arrangements for phone service as soon as possible.  Most of our residents with landlines use AT&T.

The Ridgewood staff is committed to working with our residents and Bulk TV & Internet to make this transition as trouble free as possible.  Though we have attempted to anticipate all issues and obstacles that could arise, we realize that this large endeavor deals with cutting edge technology and a few unexpected problems could arise.  We are counting on the cooperation and patience of the entire Ridgewood community as we work toward bring Ridgewood Village into the 21st Century and make it the best student mobile home community in Auburn.
